Homemade Kayak

In the summer of 2008 I got a little bored and decided it would be nice to have a kayak so I could paddle around Lake Norman. What follows is the final creation, a 10 foot clothe covered kayak.

It is made from a single piece of Ash wood, a 2″x4″x10′ board that I ripped down with a table saw. After building the frame, boiling and bending the ribs, I covered the kayak in clothe. This clothe was then sealed with a polyurethene to prevent water seapege.

And surprisingly enough, the kayak floats. It has a pretty hard keel on it, so it tracks really well but is a little tippy. Awesome to use though! Enjoy a video-
